About Conor Langton, Irish Artist and Illustrator

I am an artist and illustrator based in Co. Kilkenny. I draw Irish pubs, landscapes and the swimming spots people keep going back to, and I sell them as hand-signed fine art prints from this site.

I was born above Langton’s in Kilkenny and lived there for the first twenty years of my life. My father owned it and was obsessed with pub design. He won Irish Pub of the Year for it four times, and a good part of my childhood was spent being brought around the country on research trips, looking at how other people’s pubs were put together. My brother runs it now. I am doing much the same thing, only I am drawing them. These places matter to the towns and cities they are in, and I want a proper record of them.

I have worked as a freelance illustrator for twenty years. My work has appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly, and for The National Museum of Ireland and Columbia University. It has been recognised by Communication Arts, American Illustration, the Society of Illustrators, 3×3 and Creative Quarterly. I also teach illustration at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin.

Every piece starts on site. I sketch in the pub or out at the water, and take a lot of photographs while I am there – the tiles, the lettering, the taps, the small details that make it that place and not just any pub. The finished drawing is done by hand, digitally, from those sketches and photographs. I worked in acrylics for about fifteen years and still think that way, but drawing digitally means I can scale a piece properly for A3, adjust it, and customise a print without anything being lost between the drawing and the paper.

Every print is made here in Ireland on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 gsm using archival, 100% pigment-based inks, and hand-signed by me before it is packed. Prints come in A4 and A3, framed or unframed, and ship flat in a heavy duty card envelope. I ship worldwide from Ireland.
