The Wormhole on Inis Mór is one of Ireland’s most recognisable natural sea pools. Known locally as Poll na bPéist, it lies on the largest of the Aran Islands and was formed naturally by the power of the Atlantic Ocean, creating its distinctive rectangular shape.
The site gained international attention after hosting the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, with athletes diving from the surrounding limestone cliffs into the deep water below. It has since become one of Ireland’s best known wild swimming locations.
Today, visitors make the walk across the limestone landscape to experience this remarkable geological feature and the dramatic coastline that surrounds it. It remains one of the most photographed landmarks on the Aran Islands.
