The bar is named after Peadar O’Donnell, born at Meenmore in west Donegal in 1893. He was a socialist, a republican and a novelist, and wrote Islanders and Adrigoole. The bar under the same roof is called the Gweedore, after another part of west Donegal.

The sign over the door reads Ceol Beo Traidisiúnta, live traditional music, and that is what the place is for.
